Music Night
The first “Music Night” at the Saugatuck Rowing Club was a success in all areas! There were about 150 attendees which was great! The food presented by Chef John was perfect and enjoyed by all. Everyone agreed the menu he chose for the evening was an idea mix for the adults and children who attended. The night started with dinks and appetizers; one bar in the Regatta Lounge and the second bar was set on the lawn by the patio. It was nice seeing members and guests enjoying the beautiful weather and Saugatuck setting with friends and family. Once the band started everyone hit the dance floor. Mystic Bowie never fails to entertain and attract a large crowd. The band played tunes from his new CD and played past hits as well. The evening had a great turn out of children who couldn’t stop dancing while some joined the band to sing with Mystic and play the drums. In all it was a great night and attendees enjoyed an early summer evening event one of many they look forward to attending. Lady’s Day
A big thank you to all who made Lady’s Day a great event! Our club fitness instructors and massage therapists, the Boathouse Restaurant Staff, and special guests Fred Sessler, Self Defense instructor and Blaine from the Blaine Rice Salon made for a special day. A very special thank you to our attending members and guests whose smiles and enjoyment of the day were greatly appreciated! |

Masters & Adult Program
To follow up our great results that the Junior Program brought home, our Masters Rowers started their competitive season on June 5th with Derby Regatta.
With over 50 rowers participating in this event it will take a long time to list all the winners but I would like to mention the incredible performances in women's 8+ and women's 4x and doubles as well as men's 4+, open men's 4+ and pair. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and we weren't able to finish our winning streak by not racing in men's 8+ and mixed 8+.
But the highlight of this race was listening to our Novice women's 4+ singing the National Anthem as they got the medals around their necks! A great welcome for our Novice Men and Women rowers, who got their introduction to competing and bring with them so much fun and vivid spirit to our team!
Last weekend we took a smaller group to a only singles and doubles event in New Rochelle. After an incredible performance we won the most points edging NYAC by only 3 points!
Congratulations to all for these great results and thank you for all your hard work and commitment.
This weekend we will be back on the road for another full day of events in Princeton. Let's hope for great weather and much Gold!! |

About the Chef John Holzwarth – Executive Chef The Boathouse at Saugatuck Restaurant
John has been cooking professionally since 1995, having had the opportunity to train under Master Chef Fortunato Nicotra and Lidia Bastianvich at Felidia Restaurant. Most recently, John has collaborated with the co-founder of The Dressing Room, Michel Nischan, acting as the Executive Chef of that American cuisine, farm to table restaurant for the past two years. John has experimented with various cuisines throughout his career, but finds his greatest inspiration from creating innovative, healthy organic farm fresh dishes while supporting local farmers and their sustainable agricultural and aquacultural practices. His passion for using local, organic and sustainable foods is reflected in the various causes he has generously donated his time to support, including ArtFoodHope (organized by Alice Waters, The Dressing Room was one of 12 restaurants chosen nationwide to coordinate a private benefit dinner for the January 2009 Inauguration of President Barack Obama); Chefs for a Cause benefiting The Yale Sustainable Food Project; the 2009 Global Environmental Citizen Awards honoring Her Majesty Queen Noor and Edward Norton presented by the Harvard Center for Health and the Global Environment) and the Wholesome Wave Foundation Benefit working alongside Jacques Pepin and Michel Nishan in 2008. John’s appetite for experiencing new food and cultures has been cultivated by extensive travel through Central and South America, as well as Europe. On the rare day that he is not creating in the kitchen, you can find him experimenting with various organic hops and developing new micro-brews like his spring “Holzweissen” and his descriptive “Vaastwarth pale-ale”. He is supported in all his endeavors by his wife, Eliana Vera. John graduated from the University of Maine with a major in economics and a minor in Spanish Literature. In whatever free time he has left, he enjoys sailing and literature.
