Those who have experienced rowing know there’s nothing quite like it. The grace of the sport’s form and movements…the peace of gliding on water as day breaks…the satisfaction of personal achievement and the camaraderie of working within a team. Rowers will tell you that rowing is metaphysical, bringing relaxation to both mind and body with each stroke. But there are also very practical health and fitness benefits for taking up this sport. Almost anyone can row regardless of age or level of fitness and it’s a sport that can be enjoyed lifelong.
All Adult Programs are for adults age 21 and older. SRC offers an array of programs that provide a safe and supported opportunity to anyone who is interested in rowing, regardless of age, gender, physical ability or rowing experience. Specific programs are offered for beginners, recreational rowers and experienced rowers under the guidance of our expert coaches. We also offer opportunities for rowers of all levels to compete in regattas throughout the season.
This beginner level program is a wonderful way for both SRC members and non-members to get on the water and learn more about the sport of rowing. Sessions are designed to get adults on the water quickly, learn the fundamentals of rowing, and prepare for the next step. Classes are a minimum of 6 adults that meet 2 times a week for 4 weeks. The coaching staff works to provide a fun, energetic and enthusiastic atmosphere for all levels of fitness and ability.
At the end of the first month participants can move on to a novice level class. Non-members will need to become a member of the Saugatuck Rowing Club to continue.
Please fill out a Learn to Row Interest Form and we will get in contact with you.
Once the first Learn to Row class is complete each rower is then considered a Novice for the next 3-6 months. In the Novice class participants continue to learn the basics of rowing, both sweep rowing and sculling. Novices will learn to handle, carry, launch and row a shell on the beautiful Saugatuck River. This class is offered in one-month increments. Depending on each athlete’s progress and interest, coaches will help place athletes in the appropriate recreational or competitive program. Please contact Master Head Coach, Dave Grossman, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
This program is for SRC members who wish to enjoy rowing and the camaraderie of friends in a non-competitive environment. Coaches design workouts to both improve skill level and overall fitness. A minimum of 6 people makes a group. You can put your own group together or a coach will help you join an existing group. Most group meet 2 times a week but there is the potential for 3 days a week as well. Prerequisite: complete Adult Learn to Row or the equivalent and recommendation of a coach. Please contact Master Head Coach, Dave Grossman, at email@example.com for more information.
The Competitive program is ideal for goal oriented individuals interested in racing in local and, potentially, national regattas. Workouts are geared towards skill development, fitness and boat speed. Coaches put race line-ups together based on skill and fitness. The Masters Head Coach will organize the boats for competition, arrange practices, and handle regatta entries and boat transportation. Additional regatta fees will apply. Groups are a minimum of 6 people and meet 3-4 times a week. Athletes are encouraged to train year-round. Prerequisite: complete Adult Learn to Row, 3-6 months of Novice or Recreational rowing and/or recommendation of a coach. Please contact Master Head Coach, Dave Grossman, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
